I am late to the chat, but would recommend White Yak in Roxborough for Tibetan. And our favorite byob Italian that is tiny but never disappoints is Porcini on Sansom Street. It’s on the other side of town from where you are but worth the stroll, especially on a lovely spring evening. Of note, they are not open on Sunday but if you don’t feel like cooking on Monday, they got you covered.
Thanks for all the recs...Illata was amazing (and friendly with "extra" wine bottles), and Mawn has inspired me to explore Cambodia-town here in Long Beach more thoroughly....
I moved ("back", I also went to school here) to Philly from NYC half a year ago, and have enjoyed reading your entries over the months - our timelines and experiences are so similar! So many of the spots you listed here are ones I love (I live close to Illata and popping in for one dish + dessert is something I do probably too often).
If you haven't already, I'd recommend checking out John's Roast Pork (a philly institution), Barbuzzo (their caramel buduino is the one dessert in Philly that rivals Illata's for me), and my favorite weekend activity - the southeast Asian market when it starts back up in the spring!

Thank you! And nice to hear from someone with a similar timeline/experience :).
You must try Mish Mish! It’s such a lovely vibe and near Grace & Proper for cocktails :)
Also endorsing Reap Mini Mart for smoothies in Fishtown.
Oh yes! Have heard about both and need to try.
